Intensive Russian Attacks Disrupt Power Across Ukraine's Capital

Power facilities under attack in the region
Ukraine's power facilities have come under increased strikes in the past few days

During the night, Russian missile and drone strikes have resulted in electricity outages in large parts of Ukraine's capital, Kyiv.

Nine people were injured while local people in eastern districts were experienced blackouts and encountered disruption to water supplies, per reports from city officials.

At the same time, a seven-year-old child was fatally injured in a different aerial attack in the Zaporizhzhia area in the country's south-east, according to local officials.

Moscow has escalated attacks on electrical systems over recent weeks, while the country's government has requested "real steps" from allies to apply pressure on Moscow.

"The necessity is not symbolic gestures but firm measures - from the US, European nations and the major economies - in delivering defensive weapons and implementing penalties," he wrote in a social media post.

Authorities reported that hundreds of unmanned aircraft and several dozen missiles attacked Ukraine's energy infrastructure, describing such attacks as "strategic and deliberate" and against "essential services" as winter approaches.

The energy minister said Russia was "inflicting a massive strike" and maintenance teams were working to repair systems.

A wave of strikes struck electrical systems and civilian homes in the capital.

Five out of the nine people injured in the attacks on the city have been transported for medical care, according to city authorities.

Regional authorities said the city experienced intense attacks during nighttime hours. A seven-year-old child died and multiple civilians were wounded.

The assaults succeed periods of bombing campaigns in the region, sections of which are currently controlled by Moscow's military.

The whole nation is under warning for sophisticated projectile assaults, which are harder to detect.

Government officials told the media that Russia was intentionally trying to damage the electrical infrastructure, with assaults already disrupting gas facilities.

Authorities confirmed utility staff and authorities were anticipating further attacks.
